Function: layoutChannels()
layoutChannels(
channelSubset):object
Assigns contiguous flat offsets (and a total/pack count) to an arbitrary
subset of channel descriptors, in the order given - used both for the
"active, trained" subset (network output layout) and, incidentally, for
computing the full layout when every channel is active. Fully generic:
operates on any array of { key, size, activation } objects, whether
that's (a subset of) the built-in CHANNELS or an entirely caller-
supplied channel array.
